GRIET GRONINGEN
"Groote Griet I have been named,
Far and wide I could shoot my flame,
A cannonball lodged inside my mouth,
I fired it through the Haarder tower,
And seven feet deep into the ground."
This little poem dates back to 1672 and was written by the people of Groningen after their victory over “Bommen Berend.” De Groote Griet opened her doors in 1976 and has since been a fixture on the Grote Markt. She has shown many faces but has always breathed the atmosphere of a traditional pub. The interior hasn’t changed much over the years, and the many bar signs and advertisements bear witness to this history. She is like a woman covered in tattoos.

Sportsbar de groote griet
"Groote Griet ben ik gehieten,
